Sveta: I know the Firebird from the Stravinsky ballet--how beautiful that the quetzal reminds you of that. You're right that birds strike a chord deep within us--powerful both as themselves and as symbols. Like you, I'm a little obsessed with the quetzal--a wooden one on our front door, for example. Next time I'm in Guatemala, I'll look for a quetzal "something" for you.

I can't tell you enough times how much I am enjoying your blog and pictures to go with it! And - I think I am becoming a little obsessed with quetzal. It reminds me of Russian mythical folklore character - a "firebird," that I loved painting as a child, but of course quetzal has its own unique identity and story. Must be something about beautiful birds, real or imaginary, that strikes a cord somewhere deep in human soul.
